The construction of caravanserais has been one of the most important measures taken for passenger comfort on communication routes Whose construction has continued in the historical and Islamic period in Iran. In the southwest of Iran (eastern parts of Khuzestan and Kohgiluyeh), a number of caravanserais with a simple plan (Darvaze-Gach Caravanserai in Ramhormoz, Dezh-Mahtabi Caravanserai, and Mohammad Abad Caravanserai in Kohgiluyeh) are observed whose detailed archaeological study will make us aware of the evolution of this architectural form in the historical and Islamic period.. Therefore, the question we deal with in this study is: What is the most important feature of simple caravanserais in the southwest of Iran and what is their dating The method of this research is descriptive-comparative. In addition to investigating the historical sources of the ways of communication in the region during the Islamic period and the archaeological evidence of Mohammad Abad Caravanserai, we conduct a comparative study of other similar caravanserais in Kohgiluyeh and Khuzestan regions. Based on historical sources such as the stations on the historic route of Arjan-Isfahan, as mentioned by Moghadasi, comparison of its architecture with similar caravanserais, and the clay findings on its surface, Mohammad Abad Caravanserai is attributed to the Sassanid to Seljuqid epochs. Crescent arcs and similar pillars are considered as obvious features of Mohammad Abad Caravanserai and other similar caravanserais.
