The history of the school goes back to pre-Islamic times as a place for teaching reading or writing, and in the Islamic era, learning the Qur'an and religious preliminaries were added to the school's function. Gradually, in different Islamic periods, the school was considered as one of the educational institutions in which children were taught both literacy and teaching the Qur'an and religious instructions. In the Safavid era, according to existing reports, there were many schools in the cities of the country that were in charge of educating children in the primary stage. In this article, the school education system of the Safavid era based on the reports of European tourists and historiographical texts of that era has been studied in a descriptive-analytical manner. Findings have shown that in the Safavid era, there was a school system for educating children for which there was no single organization and internal rules and was run according to the will of the school and outside the rules and regulations of the government.
