Abstract

Clifford Edmund Bosworth (1928-2015) stands as one of the most influential scholars of the past half-century in the study and documentation of Islamic dynasties and ruling families across the Islamic world. He is also renowned for his meticulous scholarship in the historical and geographical research of eastern Iran. The History of the Saffarids of Sistan and the Maliks of Nimruz (247–949 AH) provides a comprehensive continuation of the historical narrative of Sistan, addressing a pivotal era in Iranian history which marks a turning point in breaking Arab dominance over Iran–the rise of the Saffarid dynasty–and the major events unfolding in the region up to the mid-10th century AH.
