Abstract

One of the most significant projects of contemporary religious intellectualism in the Arab world in general, and in Egypt in particular, is the renewal of the exegetical discourse and Qur’ānic studies—a movement initiated by thinkers such as Shaykh Mohammad ʿAbduh and reaching its zenith with Amin Khuli and his disciples. Al-Tafsīr: Nashʼatuhu, tadarrujuhu, tatawwuruhu (Qur’anic Exegesis: Genesis, Development, and Evolution), authored by Amin Khuli, is a product of this project and is regarded as one of the foundational contemporary works in the Arab world in the field of exegesis and exegetical scholarship. It has influenced many contemporary exegetes and scholars of Qur’ānic interpretation, serving as a source of inspiration for numerous others. Consequently, despite its modest size, this book has provided the basis for a wide range of articles and research studies in Arabic, Persian, and even Western languages. The present article is dedicated to introducing and reviewing this work, which was published in Iran in 2024 by Sanglaj Publications in a Persian translation by Dr. Ali Alimohammadi.
