"Hojjat al-Haq Hakim Omar Khayyam Neishabouri" is a famous Iranian poet and quartet writer whose fame has spread to the whole world in the West and East. However, his popularity goes back to his quatrains. But without a doubt, his great genius and great knowledge are not hidden from anyone. What is supposed to be discussed in this article is how the Arab world, that is, Arab scholars, faced Khayyam's quatrains. Although fortunately, valuable works on Khayyam have been published by Arab scholars such as Yusuf Hossein, but it seems that it is still not enough. As his work, with a historical review of the first translations of Khayyam's quatrains into Arabic, came to the conclusion that contrary to imagination Based on the closeness of two Iranian and Arabic cultures and languages, which required direct communication and immediate use of each other, the first translations of Khayyam reached the Arab world through European languages, especially English and French. Therefore, Arab researchers also Turning to Khayyam was and still is due to the researches of Western Orientalists. From this point of view, in this article, we are forced to have a brief look at some Western researches in this field. Therefore, the present article tries to analyze the components of Khayyam's research among the researchers of the Arab world and in this way, in addition to criticizing their works, to enumerate the characteristics of Khayyam's research by Arab researchers.
This survey showed:
- The West, especially Europe, has a special place in introducing Khayyam and his quatrains.
- Khayyam, according to the time conditions of his time, was probably influenced by the thoughts of some Arab and Iranian poets before him, and Abul Ala'i Ma'ari has a better place among them.
- Contemporary Arab researchers, after getting familiar with Khayyam's quatrains, which he reached mostly through their translation from European texts, have played a significant role in expanding his thoughts and opinions in the contemporary Arab world. Unfortunately, in the Iranian world, the efforts of contemporary Arabs about Khayyam and his quatrains have not received the attention they deserve. This article is mostly written in order to solve this shortcoming.
- In the contemporary Arab world, Khayyam's quatrains have left a great impact on the thoughts of contemporary Arab writers, poets, and even the culture and art of these countries. Almost no great and contemporary poet in the Arab world in the last 100 years can be found who was not influenced by Khayyam's quatrains and thoughts.
- Ilya Abu Maadhi, Marouf al-Rasafi, Jamil Sedqi al-Zahavi, Iskandar Maalouf, Amin Maalouf, Abdur Rahman Shokri, Mahmoud Akkad, Ibrahim Abdul Qadir al-Mazni, etc. are among the great contemporary Arab writers who were influenced by Khayyam.
- There are many research works about Khayyam's quatrains and his other works in the contemporary Arab world. About 300 books, hundreds of articles and more than 295 verse and prose translations of his quatrains have been published in Arab countries. Things that have not been done even about some of the greats of classical Arab poetry and literature.
