Maktab-e Hāfez: An Introduction to Hāfez Studies by Manouchehr Mortazavi is a seminal work widely recognized among scholars and lovers of Persian literature. It is regarded as a foundational text, adopting a fine approach, for interpreting Hāfez’s poetry, which offers a rigorous analysis of its central concepts and fundamental symbolic structures. Its publication marks a significant methodological shift in contemporary Hāfez scholarship. Due to the author’s pioneering approach and the fundamental questions it raises, this work remains an indispensable resource for academic engagement with Hafez. The present article provides a concise overview of the book’s thematic concerns and its principal scholarly contribution.
