Delving into lesser-known aspects of Ibn Battuta’s travel to the Sindh region during the 8th century AH (14th century AD), the author adopts an analytical approach to elucidate certain historical and geographical ambiguities in his travelogue. Drawing on the text of the Travels, earlier scholarship, and the works of Western researchers, the author addresses four key questions: (1) From where did Ibn Battuta enter the Sindh region? (2) Where was the course of the Indus River situated at that time? (3) By which route did Ibn Battuta navigate across the Indus River? (4) Where was the city of Janani located? The author emphasizes that, despite its considerable historical value, The Travels of Ibn Battuta cannot be regarded as a definitive source in isolation, and must be corroborated through field-based and comparative research. This article represents an initial step towards indigenous and field-oriented inquiry into the routes and localities mentioned in Ibn Battuta’s travel account.
