Mollā Sadrā (Zendegi, Athār, Andisheh) (Mulla Sadra: Life, Works, Thought) is a systematic attempt to provide a comprehensive account of one of the greatest figures in Islamic philosophy. Sadr al-Din Shirazi (also known as Mollā Sadrā), was a philosopher who revolutionized Islamic thought through the establishment of the school of Transcendent Philosophy (al-hekma al-mota‘āliya). The author, Hasan Sayyed Arab, seeks to present Mollā Sadrā’s influence, portraying him not only as a speculative philosopher, but as a key player in a broader civilizational and epistemological endeavor. Mollā Sadrā’s philosophy integrates the three main sources of Islamic knowledge—revelation (the Qur’an and hadith), philosophical reason (demonstration), and mystical intuition—into a coherent system. His unique synthesis of mysticism, Peripatetic and Illuminationist philosophy, theology, and hadith sets him apart as a visionary thinker. Mollā Sadrā successfully translates the visionary disclosures of mystics and saints into the rationally intelligible propositions of philosophers and theologians. In addition, he is an originator in many philosophical foundations. No one has attained his stature in bringing together philosophical principles and discursive wisdom with the principles of mystical taste and gnosis; nor is anyone his equal in the theological sciences, the sciences of ultimate realities, and the sheer breadth of his investigations into the Origin and the Return.
